How Can a Mother Ensure Her Children Can Protect Themselves When She's Not There?
Created by Benjamin LaMasters
Are you a mother worried about your children staying safe when you are not around? Of course, you will protect them when you can, but are you worried about threats they will face on the playground or at school? Are you looking for a plan to equip them for the challenges you have already faced as you grew up? We know that hoping for the best isn’t the best way to keep our families safe!
It’s all about choosing the right lessons to learn to protect ourselves, which should be simple and effective. We also want to learn how to think about situations both before and after they arise. We know the mom is the leader of the family, and we want to ensure your leadership extends past your physical presence.
Most of the time we find that the family activities are based on what is the most fun and not what teaches the best lessons. Now the secret that we’ve found is that by having some fun and practicing specific skills in an intense, yet short training session, we can produce life lasting results. Young children can quickly learn the most basic techniques, and adults can easily add power, speed, and situational awareness to instantly gain the upper hand in almost any situation.
Step 1: Identifying threats– We teach moms how to recognize the types of threats that we face in our modern world, even though over 65% are totally invisible. We learn in a way simple enough that children can also understand.
Step 2: Practicing Planned Responses-No one can prepare for everything, but if you think about that old diaper bag or packed minivan, you know you were ready for emergencies. Self defense is the same way, so we are sure to pack your tool kit with the essentials, and some specialty moves just in case.
Step 3: Implementing simple defensive habits–Humans naturally go towards pleasure and away from pain. We show you ways to make the training fun and safe to practice with your family, increasing your skill every time. Bruce Lee said “I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.
One of my favorite stories to share is from Mr. Smith. He took the course with his wife to “make sure it was legit”. They enjoyed the program immensely, but the best part was the email Mr. Smith sent me a week later. To summarize, he was at the park with his son and had witnessed his son implement one of the techniques from the training. A larger boy tried to push him without any provocation but was not successful. Mr. Smith said his son reacted safely, controlled his emotions, and removed himself from the situation. “All right before my eyes!” It is one of my favorite stories for one very important reason: Mr. and Mrs. Smith didn’t teach the lesson to their son… he was on the side of the room and had listened and learned himself!
I know that if our training worked for the Smith family, we know it can work for you and your family as well. I know that you are an amazing mother even though we haven't met because you are still reading this article. You care about keeping yourself and your family safe and getting them there as fast as possible. The first step is with you, the leader.
